What is the TDWSA?

The Toronto and District Women's Squash Association is a group of women playing squash in a GTA based league.  It is a competitive league that offers weekly play and a social component.  Last year we had 43 teams from 19 clubs playing in our league!

The TDWSA is organized by an executive of very committed volunteers.  They are Shannon Fisher, Carolyn Feather, Donna Thompson, Julie Clayton, Kelly Williamson, Carolyn Moss, Rita Bloem and Brenda Forbes.

How does the league operate?

There are 5 divisions to our league.  Our divisions are A through E with A being the highest level and E being recreational and/or new players.  We run two sessions: a winter and summer session.  In the winter session, each division has two halves to its season.  The first starts in early October and runs until the Christmas break.  The second half begins after the New Year and runs until March.  There are semi-finals, followed by the finals.  The finals are held in early April and all divisions play on the same night in the same location.  The summer session tends to be more casual but has the same components.  Our divisions are combined in the summer league: A & B play together, and C & D play together.  The E league changes yearly to reflect the needs of our players.

How are the teams organized?

Each team is composed of 5 players (or 4 in the A and E leagues) that play in ranked order.  Most teams have a minimum of 2 spares that are willing to play for the team should they need a substitute player occassionally, or in the event that a player becomes injured during the season.

When and Where do you play?

The divisions of the league play on different evenings as follows:  A & C play on Tuesdays, B plays on Wednesdays, D plays on Thursdays and the E division plays on Fridays.  Start time is generally around 7p.m. and runs until about 10:30 p.m. This includes play time and a light dinner and refreshment.

Our league has teams from Mississauga, Georgetown, Newmarket, Pickering and the city of Toronto.  The location of play depends on the teams entered in a given division.  Most divisions have 8-10 teams registered.

How do I register a team?

If you are interested in registering a team, you can contact Brenda Forbes under the Contact Us menu.  League registration for the winter season is due at the end of August, and for the summer session it is due the beginning of May.

What if I don't have enough women (or any) for a team?

If you are interested in playing and do not have enough players for a team, you should contact either Brenda Forbes or the convener of the division of interest.  There may be players from another club looking for an extra player, or perhaps another single player is looking for a club to play with.  You can also try a post in our forum and see if anyone responds.

How do I know what division I should enter?

The best way to determine your level of play is to ask your professional squash staff at your club.  If that is not available, you can contact the convener of your approximate level for suggestions.

More questions?

Please do not hesitate to email Brenda Forbes should you have any further questions.  Our contact information is posted under the "Contact Us" tab.  We look forward to having your join our league,

Happy Squashing!
